A Plant Import Permit is a legal tool to regulate the screening and prevent the entry into Seychelles of plant pests and diseases that are considered dangerous to Seychelles’ biodiversity in general and to the agriculture sector in particular. A Plant Import Permit is valid for six months from the date of issue. The Plant Import Permit is issued in duplicate. The importer in Seychelles sends the original of this document (White document sheet) to the overseas supplier when making an order. The aim is for overseas supplier to meet the conditions as indicated on the reverse of this document and in the process to obtain a Phytosanitary Certificate (Plant Health Certificate). This is another legal document, which is issued by an officer of the Plant Protection Organization of the country of origin that is the country from which the items are being imported. The Phytosanitary Certificate states that the imported items are free from pests and diseases. The importer hands over the duplicate (pink document sheet) of the Plant Import Permit to the Plant Protection Quarantine and Inspection Unit Officers when collecting or upon arrival of the Imported items into Seychelles. |
