Abstract
Part II of the Act deals with the Management and Administration where under section 4 and 5 are conferred under a Director its powers and duties
Part III deals with the ship and under Chapter 1 the obligations of registration of Mauritian ships, their application, declaration and registration and also the liability on the owners.
Chapter II deals with the certificate of registration whilst Chapter III with Transfer and Transmission of Ownership.
Chapter IV is concerned with Mortgages of ship and shares and Chapter V with Alterations to Ships.
The Nationality of Ships and that of Parallel of Registration are included in Chapter VI and VII respectively.
Part IV of the Act deals with the Crew amongst which the apprenticeship, engagement of seamen and their discharge are included.
Part V concerns the Safety Provisions and important safety convention of ships. Most salient part is the General safety convention and the prevention of collisions. Chapter XI is also important as it deals with the Dangerous Goods that are carried and disposed. Chapter XII concerns the requirement for ships to be seaworthy.
Other Parts that needs particular attention are Part VII and VIII that deal with Inquiries and Investigation and Offences and Penalties respectively.
