Different scientific branches study organisms harmful to cultivated plants :
- Weed science for weeds
- Entomology for insects but also for other harmful anthropods (myriapods, mites ...) and their useful auxiliaries
- Nematology for the nematodes
- Bacteriology for the bacteria
- Mycology for fungus
- Virology for viruses and viroids
And finally :
- Phytopathology plant diseases caused by pathogens : bacterium, fungus or virus; which implies bacteriology, mycology and virology
